“Vapors” is a continuation of my 25- year focus on the black and white idiom, which entails  black paint applied to a hard gessoed surface. Recurring themes which, despite my best attempts to challenge them, seem to resurface. So I let them.

In applying paint then taking it away, incessantly, I’m trying to make physical what I see, which is elusive. Honestly, this seems at times totally impossible. Liquids, mist and light evaporate,  condense and reappear. Everything tries to go away but the frame responds and reminds me that though everything, really everything, is ephemeral, good old reliable geometry can reign it in…for a moment’s containment anyway.

This exhibition of photography by New England artists highlights images that touch on street photography in all its forms: people, places, and intriguing juxtapositions. Original interpretations examine what it means to highlight public spaces and use the camera as an exploratory tool. All genres are included, from documentary to experimental, from gelatin silver to digital color and beyond.
